Armidale, a rural town and former gold rush settlement in New England, new south wales, is home to the refurbished Tattersalls hotel.The building was built in 1854 and renamed Tattersalls in 1884.Through an extensive renovation and revitalization, Luchetti Krelle leverages the original curves and wood details of the heritage structure, revives the verdigris of the gilded history, and respects the hotel's ornate art deco past.'we wanted to create a tone of luxury,' says Stuart Krelle, Luchetti Krelle's creative director.

All three floors were demolished to create 25 guest rooms and suites, lounge and common areas, game rooms, and an added back yard and entertainment area.The original facade has been preserved, as have some of the interior's features, such as glass skylights, ironed tin ceilings and solid wood staircases, restored to their former glory with rich walnut stains.

In the formal and guest lounge, soft furnishings and textiles evoke the radical elegance of the heyday of the almidale gold rush.Rich velvet seating in fuchsia features silk and sapphire blue walls in the formal lounge.In the guest lounge, charred orange conveys a weighted authority, and the modern geometric carpet mimics the embossed patterns of the metal ceiling and the floral arrangement of the wooden shelves."Prior to the art deco renovation of the 1930s, the hotel was built in the traditional Victorian style, so the strong jewelry tones and elegant curtains were inspired by that decadent past," Krelle said.

Vibrant geometric patterns run through the public and private Spaces, and lucchetti clay collaborated with brynton carpets on the elaborate design.Other custom elements include tubular glass and brass chandeliers mixed with chandeliers, candlesticks and antique lights.Oak florals adorn the floor of the multipurpose room, while backlit brass herringbacks enliven the marble and travertine main bar.The brass v-shaped cabinetwork references the sinuous art deco form, making curved arched doorways, mirrors and built-in shelves throughout the hotel.

Grooved edges on dining benches and rounded edges on each head of a bed further reinforce the concept of art deco.Rooms are streamlined and elegant, with minimal upholstered furniture and metallic touches to enhance a powder-toned, pastel palette.The dusky rat grass green, antique rose and apricot contrast with the french-washed walls, creating an ethereal sense of luxury.Brass decor includes floating bedside tables and reading lights, and arched steel-framed doors leading to a private lounge.In the bathroom, a separate tub and inlaid tiles celebrate the bathing ceremony.
